If I were to teach...

Assalamualaikum WBT,

How do you do my dear readers?

I am so darn excited to tell you that I am now able to practice my knowledge. I was offered a job position of a English language tuition teacher with, well, good payment of course. Alhamdulillah.

But my intention would be, I really want to help these students and I was told by the admin that those students are unfortunate where they are not good with the academics but they have to learn it too. So!, I was rang by my friend and she said, she want to take me as the English teacher. To be honest, I said 'yes' right that moment too.

Why? Because, I know that would the best opportunity to actually teach students with what I know all this while. I am really excited with the opportunity. I have been waiting ans searching for this amazing opportunity and when she asked, I said yes. Yes!! Yes, all the way.

And now, I am looking up all my books on English language and what they need to know at their stage. I mean, learning is not hard but it would be difficult if they have lack of passion and interest. I know they have it but they need to embrace it more.

I want to make them feel important because I know, these students felt left out and there is noway I am going to let that happened to them. I want them feel important and I want them to learn about English language. I want to know the importance of English language.

I am aware of them to be more like, inactive in the session but that would be my challenge for me, I do not mind that. I love it. It makes me want to work more. When we are doing what we love, well, obviously we will work towards it as much as we can, right?

Now, I am going to read as much as books as I can and also, I will try my best to ask my lecturers on what would be best teaching methods to be applied on these students.

That is all for now and I will update more, once I got my guide. Yes! hehe..

Assalamualaikum WBT

He knows best.

Assalamualaikum WBT,

Sometimes, well, most of the times, people asked me,

"Well, you have the passion in English language, why don't you go for your Master in English language?"

To be honest, I have the intention to actually learn more, but I do not know how to convey my intention to people. Now, I am employed and look for job that fits my mother's heart. Yes, its hard to do that, but in the mean time, I do some sewing and also farm work to support my life.

No kidding and I am not kidding at all.

But after I finished my 1st degree I have this vision of me working and I even took my lecturer's advice to actually work then figure out what I want to do with my life ; study or keep working. But then, I think Allah has better plan for me.

I always believe that everything that happened to me and also to other people has its own hikmah. We Muslim believe in that. Hikmah means good thing by Allah.

And now, I have this small business that I really want to see its success. I am doing a business on clothing. Simple tops with cute embellishments, simple skirt, girl's dresses. I love doing them but then, I really need something that concrete to seal that passion. I really to do that and also I want to pursue my MA degree.

On that note, I will try my very balancing those two passions. In shaa Allah. Allah knows best.

Assalamualaikum WBT

Learning English Language : Modals.

Assalamualaikum WBT,

How do you do everyone? I would for you to keep on reading and look for something that excites you the most and relate that excitement in learning English language. It might be hard for you, but it worth trying, right?

Now, we have been discussing on several topics on English grammar. We too did discuss on Part of Speech which is really important for all of us to know about. As for this entry, I would love for you to know about Modals.

What are Modals?

Modals are verbs and it is used to add certain stress or emphasis to a message.

How is that for your understanding? Do not worry, I will try my very best to explain Modals with examples to you, okay?

There are 9 Modals that you need to remember. They are, can, could, may, might, will, would, shall, should and must.

CAN and COULD

The modal CAN has THREE main functions.

1. To mean 'able to do something'.

Examples:

I can sing very well.
Mei Ling can eat all day long.

2. To ask for permission. COULD is also used for this function and is a more polite form of request.

Examples :

Can/Could I watch television?
Can/Could we go out and play, please?

3. To show or to enquire about the possibility of an action. COULD+HAVE is used to refer the possibility of a past action. *COULD is PAST TENSE form of CAN

Examples :

Drinking can cause liver disease. *Drinking = alcohol related drinks
Could Razif have done with it?
Siti can finishes all these cakes.

The negative forms of CAN and COULD are CAN'T and COULDN'T. These are used to express negative ideas.

Both Can and Could can be used in any forms but it is better to use COULD instead of CAN to make requests since it is a more polite form.

MAY and MIGHT

May is used to :

1. ask for and give permission. It is more polite than CAN.

Examples :

May I go now? ( Ask permission )
May I go the toilet, teacher? ( Ask permission )
Yes, you may go to the toilet. ( Give permission )

2. show the possibility of an action or event happening. Might is used as the past tense of may. Might, however, can also be used to express the possibility of a future action. It shows a greater doubt than may.

Examples :

We may go to Penang this week. ( Possibility )
She might join us for dinner tonight. ( Doubtful possibility )
Kiki might have passed if he had been more careful. ( Past possibility )

WILL and WOULD

Will is used to :

1. talk about the future (ie. form of future tense). It can also be used with if to form the conditional tense. Would is the past tense of will.

Examples :

Lela and Lily will choose the actors for the play. (Future sentence)
If Malik is sick, Az will replace him. (Conditional sentence)
Mei said, she would call me, but she didn't. (Past form)

2. to make invitations or requests. Would is also used for this function. It is a more polite form.

Will you hand me the remote control? (Request)
Would you love to be my partner for life? (Invitation)
Would you like some scones? (Invitation)

SHALL and SHOULD

Shall is used only with the pronouns I and We. Shall is used to form the future and conditional tense. It is often used to make a promise or to show one's intention to do something.

Examples :

I shall begin a secretarial course soon. ( Intention )
If we don't hurry, we shall miss the place. ( Future possibility )
I shall return your money, tomorrow. (Promise)

Should carries the meaning ought to. It is used :

1. to express a duty or obligation.

Examples :

You should give more money to your parents.
We should advise and help him.

2. to show that an action was not done. Regret is often expressed in these sentences. Since the time referred to is past time, the phrase used is should have.

We should have bought the furniture when it was on sale.
They should have informed us that they were leaving.

MUST

The modal MUST has three main functions :

1. to show a necessity to do something.

Examples :

You must buy thee train ticket earlier since it's Hari Raya.
Mother must be extra careful when their children fall sick.

2. to give orders or commands.

You must finish your homework, now!
You must not talk in the library.

3. to refer to something which is logically true.

Old Mr. Kwan does a lot of charity work. He must be a generous and kind man.
Menon is not talking to me. He must be angry about something.

*it has the relations that only the first sentence has.

Note :

Both SHOULD and MUST can be used to give commands or orders. MUST, however, is more likely to have authorities while SHOULD makes sentence sound more like an advice.

Common mistakes :

The verb following a modal CANNOT have s,-ed or -ing added to it. It must be used in its original form.

So, that is all for now. Very Late Lunch, now! hahaha...

Learning has no destination.

Assalamualaikum WBT,

How do you do everyone? Hi readers, I really hope that you could forgive my grammatical errors in the entries, sometimes, I just kinda skipped and did not know the mistake. Then, after my second and third reading, I realised that I made a few mistakes and as for that, I am so very sorry.

Now, I have a few things that I really want to tell you,*not in serious mood. More like, story telling. Haha. As you all know, I happened to write my entries in leisure, I mean, not so formal writings. I believe that when I wrote something, I want the readers to feel that, they are welcome and as if I am preparing them a nice tea/coffee and we have a little chat. Unfortunately, it is not how blogs work. Blogs or websites are more like one way communication, where as, its only to be read by others, not as a medium to converse. Unless, you readers, comment or email me on anything regarding the content I have written, that would a different scenario. *not that I want you to write me something, no, just saying the different scenario. Hehe..

I too read other blogs and when I found something that really amused me, I will try my very best to put in my writings. I too take a few points and markers from the popular blogs, any blogs and try to incorporate such ideas into my writings but not everything worked, right?

Nonetheless, we write things that we really want to write, right? As for me, I am writing on English grammar, not to show that I am good in English grammar, no! I want to remind myself on English grammar, that is all. I love English grammar, I fell in love with it when I was 2nd semester in uni, my best friend taught me the simplest way to actually master the English grammar, the simple one such POS. He said,

" If you master POS, you are able to do anything".

Alhamdulillah, I know now what POS and with that, I am able to analyse the misplaced of words, spelling, grammar. Well, not all of the mistakes but a few. I mean, better than before. I am too still learning. That is not destination in learning, except the road. You pick up the experience along the road and you could only choose the turn, not the destination, because, there is no destination in learning. Hehe...

That is all,

Assalamualaikum WBT

Learning English Language : Part of Speech.

Assalamualaikum WBT,

How do you do everyone?

When someone ask you,

"what is Part of Speech?"

What would you answer? What would be your answer to that question?

Well, if its for me, my answer would be part of speech is a category of words. Well, to be honest, POS is the formal term of English grammar. It is actually what we have been learning all this while, imagine that. I have been posting and writing the same exact materials, but it does not mean that we were wrong, no! It is just that we happened to have the alternative terms on the same things. Lovely isn't?

Okay, fine, we have 8 types of Part of Speech. So? what are they? What are the part of speech ?

- Noun
- Pronoun
- Verb
- Adverb
- Adjective
- Preposition
- Conjunction
- Interjection

These are the part of speeches, but you already know most of these part of speeches right?

Noun : name of thing or person
Pronoun : replace for noun
Verb : action or state
Adverb : describe a verb, adjective or adverb
Preposition : links a noun to another word
Conjunction : joins clauses or sentences or words
Interjection : short exclamation, sometimes inserted into a sentence

Now, I will be giving a few examples on conjunction and interjection because all the others are very easy already, right?

Examples of  :

Conjunction : I love my cats AND dogs.

Interjection : Ouch! That hurts.

Now, that is easy right? now you know what Part of Speech is. Lovely.

Assalamualaikum WBT

p/s: Piece of cake indeed.
